I am a lifetime resident of Watauga County and live in the Foscoe Community with my husband, Thad Taylor. My parents are Clint and Ruth Cornett from the Mountain Dale Community in Vilas. My daughter, Melissa, has blessed me with 3 beautiful grandchildren plus a beautiful great granddaughter.
After graduating from Watauga High School and beginning my career in the Clerk’s office, I completed several business and accounting classes through Caldwell Community College. Also as part of my work experience, I have taken many hours of training offered by the Administrative Office of the Courts and by the North Carolina School of Government in Chapel Hill.
I worked in the Clerk’s office for 30 years under the direction of the Honorable Clerks of Court, John T. Bingham and Glenn Hodges. I worked in all departments with a concentration in the bookkeeping, criminal, and civil divisions of the office. As part of my duties I worked with financial institutions, the county finance office, jurors reporting for jury duty, men and women paying and receiving child support, lawyers filing civil actions, law enforcement personnel, and people from all walks of life. I enjoyed working as an Assistant Clerk with and for the people of Watauga County. As a result of those years of experience, I had the knowledge and ability to be your Clerk and was honored to be elected as your Clerk of Superior Court in 2010.
Since being elected in 2010 for my first term and then running unopposed in 2014 for my second term, I have continued to serve the county with honesty and with integrity. My staff and I attend training to ensure that we keep up with the changes that impact our ability to serve the public in all matters that come before us. On several occasions I have either hosted or co-hosted Continued Legal Education training for our local bar. I have also hosted seminars for our banking community to help us all better understand our roles and responsibilities to our citizens who are dealing with estate administration issues.
My life experiences have given me the knowledge needed to be a good administrator and leader. Therefore, I again ask for your vote on November 6, 2018.
